ORANAMENTAL FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Wednesday, May 1 from 5:30-8:30 PM @ Main Branch
At 5:30, teens and adults will create a decorative cutting board using stencils and paint. At 6:30 PM, gardening expert Melinda Myers will discuss increasing the nutritional value and beauty of your landscape by incorporating attractive fruits and vegetables into your landscape, garden beds, and containers. Growing varieties that are both ornamental and productive increases the opportunities for creating a beautiful space right outside your door. This program/webinar is part 2 of a 3-part series presented by WE Energies.  THE RUN FOR THE ROSES

Saturday, May 4 from 3:00-5:45 PM @ the Main Branch and the Wild Horse Saloon (714 River Avenue, Iron Mountain, MI 49801)

Adults and teens will enjoy a presentation on the history of the Kentucky Derby including origin, traditions, interesting facts, and a Derby Winner with a local connection to Iron Mountain. Non-alcoholic mint juleps will be available, and participants will have a chance to win a Pegasus pin. Fake bets for the 2024 Derby winner will be placed for fun! Please feel free to wear Derby gear, including big hats if you’d like! Following the presentation at the Main Branch, join us at the Wild Horse Saloon to watch the 2024 Kentucky Derby Live. Required registration begins on Saturday, April 27; please call (906) 774-1218 to sign up!

YOGA AT THE LIBRARY

Tuesday, May 11 from 1:00-3:00 PM @ Main Branch

Local yoga instructor Kimberly Spigarelli will lead teen and adult patrons through beginning to moderate poses and breathing exercises. Please bring a mat or towel with you. Required registration begins on Tuesday, April 30; please call the Main Branch at (906) 774-1218 to sign up!

BOW WOWS AND BOOKS

Wednesday, May 8 at 5:00 PM @ Main Branch

Patrons of all ages and reading abilities can practice their reading skills by reading aloud to therapy dogs, Azul, a Siberian-Husky Mix and Angel, a Teddy-Bear. Registration begins on Wednesday, May 1; please call the Main Branch at (906) 774-1218 to sign up for a 15-minute time slot with either or both dogs!

THE ART OF BEING

Saturday, May 11 from 1:00-3:00 PM @ Main Branch

This drop-in program is designed for patrons in grades 5 and up that are currently battling cancer, are survivors of cancer, and for those that are/have been caregivers (includes family, friends, medical personnel, etc.) This is a safe space to share experiences and meet others. Each month a craft will be available for attendees to do if they wish; May will be a desktop diorama. No registration required

BOOK BREAKDOWNS: ROD SADLER

Michigan Notable true crime author Rod Sadler will share what inspired him to become an author, details about his books, and host a Q&A session. Sadler has written several books on notorious murders in the Great Lakes State including: “To Hell I Must Go: The true story of Michigan’s own Lizzie Borden” and “A Slayer Waits: the true story of a Michigan Double Murder. His most recent book, Grim Paradise: The Cold Case Search for the Mackinac Island Killer,” focuses on a murder that occurred on Mackinac Island in 1960. Books will also be available for sale and signing. For teens and adults.

Kristen and Eric Glaser will present about their exotic pets including snakes, tarantulas, and lizards at this all age program to kick off Summer Reading 2024: Adventure Begins at Your Library. Opportunities to take photos and hold the animals will be available. The public is welcome to attend North Dickinson’s session. Please ring the doorbell and school staff will let you in.
