Halloween Carnival

Get spooky at the library during our Halloween Carnival, Saturday, October 28, 10 AM – 12 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch in Iron Mountain! To celebrate the spookiest of holidays, we’ll have a ghost pumpkin eruption demonstration, get hands-on with spider web and pumpkin games, and make a fun spider web craft! Stop by any time during the program for these fun activities for all ages. Wear your costumes and “boo-gie” on down to the library! Young adults can join us for an anime showing featuring episodes of Soul Eater from 10 AM-12 PM! Soul Eater is rated PG-13. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Dickinson County Library.

Strange History: Hidden Headlines

Celebrate International Games Week with the Dickinson County Library! Join us on Wednesday, November 1, 6-8:30 PM at the Main Branch in Iron Mountain, and Saturday, November 4, 9 AM-5 PM at the Main Branch in Iron Mountain and 10 AM-1 PM at the Solomonson Branch in Norway! Enjoy a variety of board games, card games and more as we celebrate all the various ways to play!
To celebrate International Games Week, we will introduce several games newly added to our collection: on Wednesday night, try out 221B Baker Street, a Sherlock Holmes mystery board game, or visit the Main Branch on Saturday to play Blokus, a tile placement game with simple but deep gameplay akin to chess! Players who attend at the Solomonson Branch in Norway can try out the Infinite Board Game, a kit containing the pieces and instructions for an infinite variety of gameplay experiences! Kids, teens, and families of all ages are invited to drop in any time during these programs, and to bring your own games to share.

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) Write-Ins

Participate in National Novel Writing Month during weekly write-ins at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch in Iron Mountain! These drop-in sessions on Mondays, November 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 5-8:30 PM are available for everyone to work on November National Novel Writing Month novels, providing a quiet space perfect for scribbling away. On Monday, November 13, our write-in will take place in the computer lab, where we’ll introduce the NaNoWriMo challenge in more detail, with a tutorial of the submission website and helpful tips! Displays of books on writing will be provided, and weekly writing prompts will help keep the writing brain working! Children in grades K-12 and parents can explore our demonstration stations with Makey Makey kits which act as musical instruments, game controllers, and more. Young adults will be challenged to set up their own Makey Makey kit configurations to play Scratch games and make their own music!

Bookcycle and Girls Night Out

Our Bookcycle craft will challenge you to salvage old books to create beautiful literary decorations and gifts. This month, we’ll cut and roll pages to form a decorative wreath! All materials will be provided. Registration is not required during this event. While you’re here, savor some cider and cookies provided by the Friends of the Library, and enter their drawing to win one of two lovely gift baskets!
