Gerald Goodchild Memorial

Agnes Jayne Memorial

The fund, now in its 32nd year, was established in 1993, following Agnes Jayne’s passing. She was born January 11, 1912 in Iron Mountain, and was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and an Iron Mountain High School graduate. She married Kenneth W. Jayne on January 28, 1931 and they raised four children. Both Mr. and Mrs. Jayne were prominent members of our community; he worked in business, she in sales. She was a long-time sales associate at the iconic Colenso’s clothing store and Frankini’s jewelry store. Agnes was a devoted library supporter who visited weekly, an avid reader, and a dedicated volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and being with her many friends.

The memorial fund provides readers with a variety of romance fiction and large print titles. Annual contributions have been made to the endowment by her daughter, Mary (Jayne) Erickson Parrott in honor of her children, Terri (Erickson) Court, Gary and Gregg Erickson, and her 5 grandsons, Benjamin and Joshua Court and Colin, Connor, and Caleb Erickson.

Susan Khoury Memorial

Susan Khoury Memorial books

The Dickinson County Library is pleased to announce a memorial collection honoring the life of Susan Khoury that will be on display at the Main Branch throughout the month of October, celebrating her birthday month.

Items in this memorial were donated from Susan’s private collection. They include adult and juvenile fiction and non-fiction books, as well as music CDs. Of special note are many Middle Eastern cookbooks, as Susan was a proud Arab American, founding member of the Arab American Museum in Detroit, and frequent traveler to the Middle East.

Susan was a devoted advocate for libraries and served on the Dickinson County Library Board from 1996 to 2020. She served with distinction as the board’s vice chair from 2000 to 2020. During her tenure, she also served on various committees including policy, personnel, and building, and was on the Superiorland Library Cooperative Board.

The Dickinson County Library is pleased to announce the 2025 Claire Lilja Memorial Fund selections. Established by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Lilja, this fund honors Claire’s memory with the latest resources in the areas of nutrition, linguistics, basic economics, and preventative medicine.

Cheryl McConnell Memorial

The Dickinson County Library is pleased to announce a memorial fund to remember and honor the life of Cheryl McConnell, who worked at the library for more than 25 years. Established with funds from her colleagues, this will be the third of five installments.

Cheryl graduated from Norway High School in 1976 and raised five children. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, shopping, socializing with her friends, and attending her kids’ and grandchildren’s sports, music, and art events.

Joan Phillips Memorial

The Solomonson Branch of the Dickinson County Library has added the following adult fiction titles to its collection to honor and remember the life of Joan Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was born December 16, 1931 in Norway and graduated from Norway High School in 1950. She enjoyed the outdoors, dogs, painting, reading, sewing, and crafts. She was a regular library patron and established the Leo and Margaret VanGoethem Memorial at the Solomonson Branch in memory of her parents.
