1000 Books Before Kindergarten

This free program is designed for young children before they begin kindergarten.  Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are perfect for this program!

 To get started:

  • Visit the Circulation Desk at any Dickinson County Library branch to receive a 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Welcome Tote Bag that includes information on the program, registration form, a board book that is yours to keep and a book log for your first 100 books.

  • The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn,  infant, toddler, and/or preschooler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books before your precious one starts kindergarten. Books can be repeated!  Does it sound hard? Not really if you think about it. If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 3 65 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years.

    • Return your first 100 book reading log to the library to earn a brag tag key ring and the next reading log. Every time you turn in a reading log, you’ll receive a brag tag and at every 200 book interval, your child will receive a free paperback book. Turn in the 1000 Books Reading Log to receive a free hardcover book, the final brag tag and a certificate!
