eBooks at the Dickinson County Library
Dickinson County Library now has electronic books online through the Library of Michigan and a Denver-based company called NetLibrary. As part of the Michigan Electronic Library (MEL) public libraries within the state have a shared collection of about 8000 recent books online as well as about 3500 classic pieces of literature that are now in the "public domain" or no longer subject to copyright. The Library of Michigan and NetLibrary have collaborated to offer ebooks on a wide variety of subjects, including history, business, general reference, self-help, travel and cooking.
These books can be browsed online in our computer labs and can even be "checked out" for use at home.
In order to check an ebook out for use on your home PC, you must have an internet connection at home and register yourself on NetLibrary's website while at the library.

Registering as a user is free of charge, and can be done by filling out a short questionnaire on their web site. By registering within the library, you can go home and log in to NetLibrary using the name and password you picked out. As a registered user, you can check books out and have access to them at home for 6 hours. After those 6 hours, the book is automatically "checked in" so there is never an overdue book..
